Intramericas is a photographic journey across Central America, undertaken entirely on the road and using only a Leica camera. Traveling from Panama to the border of the United States, the project unfolds through local transportation—buses, shared taxis, and informal routes—embracing proximity, slowness, and direct human contact.
Conceived as an immersive experience rather than a planned itinerary, the journey privileged observation over destination. Borders, landscapes, and everyday encounters shaped the narrative, revealing a region defined by movement, transition, and resilience. The choice of minimal equipment and local means of travel imposed a discipline that profoundly influenced both the visual language and the approach to storytelling.
On the fifteenth anniversary of the journey, Intramericas stands as the photographic chronicle of an experience that radically transformed Andrea Pistolesi’s work. It marks a shift toward a more essential, intuitive form of travel photography—one rooted in presence, constraint, and the unpredictable rhythm of the road.
